Breinschmid at MuTh – three performances!
Fri, 10. March 2017
Georg Breinschmid was born in 1973 and lives in Vienna. He is one of the foremost Austrian jazz musicians to appear on the international stage. Breinschmid studied classical double bass at Vienna’s music university. During this time he was also playing as a jazz musician, working with violinist Zipflo Weinrich, among others. From 1994 to 1996 he was a member of the Tonkunstler Orchestra (the Lower Austrian Symphony Orchestra), and subsequently played with the Vienna Philharmonic from 1996 to 1998. He then decided to turn away from the orchestral route to pursue his passion and dedicate more of himself to improvised music. Since 1999 Breinschmid has emerged as one of the most versatile and virtuosic bass players on the international jazz scene. He has collaborated with Archie Shepp, Charlie Mariano, Biréli Lagrène, Triology, Megablast and numerous others. From 1999 to 2006 he was the Vienna Art Orchestra’s regular double bassist.

Jupiter meets Carmen
Sat. 4th March – 19:30
Under the baton of their chief conductor, the Brno-based Moravian virtuosos start their programme with a piece by Jan Václav Voříšek, a Bohemian contemporary of Schubert. This is followed by the world premiere of a fantasia on Carmen, which was written for the double bass by Tscho Theissing and composed especially for Georg Breinschmid, the hugely popular jazz bass player.
Milan Turkovic conducts the main opus, Mozart’s “Jupiter” Symphony.
Quo Vahid – Music meets Magic
Wed. 19th April – 19:30
Vahid Khadem-Missagh has a delightful way of stepping outside the conventional structure of a classical concert. He tells stories about the Staatsoper violinist and his hairdresser, of Mozart and his marbles, of the magician and his finger exercises, and much more besides … peppering his anecdotes with all kind of magical surprises.
The musicians at his side are Vienna’s Georg Breinschmid, one of the world’s finest double bassists, and the young prize-winning pianist Veronika Trisko.
New (Y)Ears Concert
Thurs 20th April, 19:30 or
Fri. 21st April, 19:30
“OK then! Take care! See you back here in another 20 years!” It’s two decades since Breinschmid and Schulz packed their classical music suitcases and travelled across Europe, Asia and America. Since then, they have each followed different musical directions. And now they’re back together again, right here in Vienna. The Georg Breinschmid Trio and the 22-piece Camerata Schulz Wien Orchestra, perform the music they have discovered over the years.
