What does a dream sound like in the cinema? And how is music created which makes what we see on the screen even more exciting? This hosted concert is all about film music, unusual instruments, and new sounds. There will be music from well-known films, but also pieces which show how film music can work entirely without a screen. The focus is on one instrument in particular: the theremin, which is played without any physical contact and became well-known through its use in a film by Alfred Hitchcock. Its sounds seem mysterious, sometimes uncanny, sometimes as if from another world. Continuing our journey into outer space, we hear music by György Ligeti, which featured in “2001: A Space Odyssey”. The piano duo Anton & Maite play short, playful pieces by Hungarian composers, showing that contemporary music can be inquisitive, surprising and even humorous. There is also music by Laurie Spiegel, one of the first composers of electronic music. Her sounds have been flying through space with the Voyager space probe since the 1970s. With film excerpts, live music and short explanations, this concert invites the audience to listen closely, ask questions and discover new soundworlds. No prior knowledge is required - just plenty of curiosity.

This concert invites pupils to get to know a rather special composer: Florence Price (1887–1953). She was the first African-American woman whose works were performed by major orchestras. Yet her music was long forgotten, due to exclusion, racism, and the limited opportunities available to women of colour in the 20th century.   Through songs, piano pieces and spirituals, the concert tells how Florence Price lived, worked, and composed. The music combines classical forms with African-American traditions, and shows how personal experiences, history, and social conditions can all be translated into sound. The concert includes a special section where the audience sings along to African American spirituals. This allows pupils to experience music not only as listeners, but as a community activity. The spirituals enable us to hear how music can express hope, resistance, and solidarity.

Wie klingt ein Männerchor, der früher einmal ein Knabenchor war? Und was hat das mit Beatles-Songs, Jodlern, Wienerliedern und ganz neuer Musik zu tun?VieVox besteht aus ehemaligen Wiener Sängerknaben, die auch als Erwachsene weiter gemeinsam singen. In diesem Konzert erzählen sie mit ihren Stimmen Geschichten: lustige, nachdenkliche, verrückte und berührende. Manche Stücke handeln von Liebe (mit sehr speziellen Rezepten!), andere von Abschied, wieder andere von Faultieren, Küchenschaben oder sogar von Umlauten wie Ä, Ö und Ü – mit Klatschen, Stampfen und Bewegung.Viele der Sänger schreiben ihre Musik selbst oder arrangieren sie neu. So entsteht ein spannender Mix aus alter und neuer Musik, bei dem Zuhören, Mitdenken und Staunen gefragt sind. In der Moderation erklären die Sänger, wie die Stücke entstanden sind, warum man im Chor auch schauspielern darf und wie zeitgenössische Musik ganz nah an unserem Alltag sein kann.Ein Konzert zum Entdecken, Lachen und Hinhören – und eine Einladung, Männerchormusik einmal ganz anders kennenzulernen. 

Tango ist ein Tanz, bei dem nichts festgelegt ist: Jede Bewegung entsteht im Moment. Genau so funktioniert auch viel zeitgenössische Musik. In diesem Konzert treffen Geige, Klavier und elektronische Klänge auf Musik, die von Tango, Canción und Limbo inspiriert ist. Die Komponist:innen erzählen mit ihrer Musik Geschichten von Buenos Aires, von Bewegung, Spannung und Emotion. Manche Stücke sind ruhig und poetisch, andere rhythmisch und voller Energie. Teilweise wird auch getanzt – so wird sichtbar, wie eng Musik und Bewegung zusammengehören.Das Konzert lädt dazu ein, neue Musik mit offenen Ohren zu entdecken und zu erleben, wie Tanz Musik verändern kann – und umgekehrt.
