“Between faithfulness to the original, rough electric guitar, harsh electronics and vocals at the limit, the duo is currently able to shake the audience in the most lasting way”, Christian Schachinger praised the experiment by Oliver Welter, musician and singer in cult band NAKED LUNCH, and the pianist, sound and performance artist Clara Frühstück in the “Standard”. The two joined forces in 2021 at the invitation of the Burgtheater to radically reinterpret Schubert’s “Winterreise” song cycle. With their instinct for pop sensibility and passionate precision, they distil the essence of the song cycle. The result is a compelling journey that draws the audience in, straight to the heart and into the shadowy soul of Schubert’s songs. Now you can finally experience it again!

In his poignant and beautiful piece Youkali, Kurt Weill expressed a deep longing for the unattainable land of our dreams. By then, Weill had already fled from Hitler and the Nazis, leaving behind the lost Berlin of the Golden Twenties for Paris – the City of Light, a sleepless haven where exiles and artists found refuge and camaraderie. The North American F. Scott Fitzgerald captured the lifestyle of the era in his novel The Great Gatsby, while in Buenos Aires, Carlos Gardel rose to become a global star of tango. Pain and pleasure, longing and hope all come alive as Sona MacDonald, Sophie Heinrich, and Miloš Todorovski bring the Roaring Twenties to life through their captivating musical and literary journey.
