The famous story of a visit to an exhibition is retold here as a piece of modern dance theatre for children. And that’s not all that’s changed: this adaptation, which had its premiere performance in Moscow, has been transposed to the modern day and relocated to a children’s dormitory! The children go to bed. But as soon as the light goes out, a whole host of pictures appear before them, as if in a dream: a gnome, an angel with blue wings, and a wild pillow fight, with feathers flying everywhere. But other, strange beings are also seen: the old witch Baba-Jaga, and a jolly cook, who uses a giant pan.
This ballet production was choreographed by Kirill Simonov, former Principal Dancer with the world-famous Mariinski Theatre Ballet Company. And Wolfgang Mitterer has furnished Mussorgsky’s original for piano and Ravel’s adaptation for orchestra with his own electronic sounds.
Recommended for families with children aged six and over.
