Crazy Cinema and Fairground Attractions
Spotlight on the Clarinet/ Matthias Schorn in the MuTh/Silent films with live music from Matthias Schorn & Friends
Piano-playing dogs, contortionists who could twist their bodies to the point of pain, and local news reports “in life-size, moving images”. The funfair films produced in the Silent Era between 1896 and 1916 featured a colourful collection of fairground attractions and other sensations! As a medium, cinema’s rapid rise to popularity was due not only to film screenings in variety theatres; these travelling fairground cinemas also made a strong contribution. For one night only, Matthias Schorn and his companions teleport the MuTh audience back to raucous yesteryear!
Works by Debussy, Strauss, Berg, Webern, Stravinsky, Korngold, Schreker and Reger, and others.
