Einen Jux will er sich machen (“He’s going to have a good time” – in German)
by Johann Nestroy, adapted for the Wiener Kindertheater children’s theatre
More than a hundred children from the Wiener Kindertheater ensemble take to the stage in a production with an alternating cast.
Johann Nestroy’s 1842 musical play is a masterpiece of situation comedy, full of typical Nestroy wit. But at the same time, it is also social criticism: by the end of the piece, it’s all about money and nothing else. Everything comes down to goods and consumption — even human relationships.
This event-packed comedy of errors centres on Weinberl, a shop assistant. He really doesn’t want to look after his boss’s shop. While he is on his own, he decides to seize the opportunity. He’ll break free of the tiresome constraints of everyday life, and “Have a good time”. But Weinberl could not possibly imagine the events he has set in train, as one catastrophe follows another!
