The Vienna Boys' Choir presents a portrait of a composer
Franz Schubert is undoubtedly the most famous of the Vienna Boys’ Choir’s forebears. At just 31 years of age, the “master of gentle sounds” had already composed six Masses, ten symphonies, eleven operas and musical comedies, a whole host of chamber music, and over 600 Lieder!
The Vienna Boys’ Choir set out on Schubert’s trail in the company of Kapellmeister Oliver Stech and director Michael Schachermaier. Their performance includes choral pieces such as “Ständchen”, “Gondelfahrer” and “Widerspruch”, plus solo songs, an extract from a Mass, and the Maybebop group’s a cappella version of “Erlkönig”. “Signed: Franz Schubert” – a journey of discovery, achieved through the media of cardboard, cloth and finger paints. In just 60 minutes, we get to learn (almost) everything about the great composer.
