Vienna Young Philharmonic Fest der Stimmen (Festival of Voices)
The Vienna Young Philharmonic and Chorus Juventus (the mixed choir of the High School Senior Class of the Vienna Boys’ Choir) perform under conductor Michael Lessky, with soprano Diana Alexe and harp virtuoso Elisabeth Plank. Voices and instruments come together in a festival of music that celebrates the joy of life. The “Voice of Youth” can be heard as clearly in the work of Maurice Ravel as in Schubert’s more cheerful pieces. And especially if a virtuoso soprano is singing, and a fine harpist lending her voice to the music of Beethoven. However, quite different voices can be heard in “Central Park in the Dark” by Charles E. Ives. This work rounds off the festival — “… and we walk home”, as Ives described the end of his composition.
