Liebe und so weiter…(Love and other things …)
Frank Hoffmann & mg3 (Martin Gasselsberger Trio)
Literature and music from across the centuries, taking as its theme the finest subject known to man. But this concert’s programme goes further, and considers various forms of the “collateral damage” associated with love: marriage, jealousy, divorce, extra-marital relationships, and a whole host of other catastrophes. Research into these areas is well documented — from the Minnesänger to Erich Fried and Rainer Maria Rilke, in the lyrics of schmaltzy popular music, even in the polished prose and official language of contemporary legal texts on these matters.
Frank Hoffmann, singing for the first time since “La Cage aux Folles” at the Vienna Volksoper, draws on the legacy of Hildegard Knef, Herman van Veen, Charles Aznavour and Frank Sinatra. Mg3, the trio led by the celebrated pianist Martin Gasselsberger (Austrian Jazz musician of the year 2008/2009, Concerto Poll) add their rich talents into the mix with instrumental music by composers ranging from Walter Donaldson to Vincent Youmans.
