In 1938 Benny Goodman, “the King of Swing”, took New York’s Carnegie Hall by storm, becoming the first jazz bandleader to play at the venue. Goodman was not only an exceptional improviser; he was also a great technical player with a strong work ethic. He became an outstanding figure in both jazz and classical musical, so it is highly appropriate that Matthias Schorn, August Zirner and students from the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna should be the ones to tell his story and showcase his musical genius “After you’ve done all the work and prepared as much as you can, what the hell, you might as well go out and have a good time.” (Benny Goodman)
