A farewell concert after 40 years together
We regret that we have had to postpone this event to 27th June 2021.
All tickets already purchased remain valid for the rescheduled date.
The farewell concert of a highly acclaimed ensemble After 40 years of appearances on the international stage, the musicians of the Auryn Quartet are bringing this chapter to a close in summer 2021. They take their final bows in the MuTh with performances of some of their favourite works from quartet literature.
The “Auryn” is a magical talisman invented by Michael Ende for his novel “The Neverending Story”. Protecting wearers from harm, the Auryn also helps make wishes come true. Back in 1981, Matthias Lingenfelder, Jens Oppermann, Steward Eaton and Andreas Arndt formed a string quartet, and took the idea for their name from the magic amulet.
However, the inspiration provided by the mythical talisman was just the start for the four musicians, who have held professorships at the University of Music in Detmold since 2003. With their decades of appearances at international concert halls, their curatorial work (Kammermusikfest Este, Musiktage Mondsee), and their complete recordings of String Quartets by Haydn (awarded the German Record Critics’ Award Committee prize for 2011), Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms, the members of the Auryn Quartet have developed musical skills, knowledge and understanding of unprecedented depth, which they now draw upon freely as they create and perform to their heart’s content.
