Alcina
An opera in three acts by Georg Friedrich Handel / A production by the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna

* abgespielt

Alcina lives on an enchanting, magical island. But she is rarely alone, as ships often fetch up stranded on the shore. The male crew members immediately fall for her charms, thereby sealing their own fate. But it’s not long before Alcina becomes bored. Then she changes her lover into a flower or a wild animal, before turning her attention to the next new admirer. In this way her island acquires an aspect reminiscent of Paradise itself, and this in turn entices other seafarers. But things change abruptly when Alcina herself falls in love with a new arrival.

Twists and turns abound throughout the three acts, until finally the island’s old order is restored.
