“And the Bridge is Love”
Junge Philharmonie in the MuTh

“And the bridge is love”: this saying originates with Alma Mahler. She knew all about this. She felt it within. Without her, Gustav Mahler’s Tenth Symphony would have been unthinkable. A cry, an act of purification, an exclamation of “Leb’ wohl, mein Saitenspiel” (O farewell, my lyre) — and it was never finished.

In his final days, Gustav Mahler discovered Alma the composer. Her “Laue Sommernacht” (A balmy summer night) was the last piece of music he ever heard. They both wrote love poems, thereby building yet another bridge.

In collaboration with the International Gustav Mahler Society, the Vienna Young Philharmonic, conducted by Michael Lessky, invites you to a poignant, intimate evening of music, song (Janina Baechle) and theatre, with Petra Morzé as Alma Mahler. There will be an opportunity to attend an introductory presentation in the studio at 18:45.
