Spotlight on the Clarinet / Daniel Ottensamer in the MuTh/ Crossing the boundaries between classical and jazz

In the first of the concerts he has devised especially for MuTh, Daniel Ottensamer, principal clarinettist at the Vienna Philharmonic, explores the boundaries between jazz and the classics. He hosts the event in his usual accomplished manner. With the help of Gerald Preinfalk, Ottensamer demonstrates what a versatile instrument the clarinet is; suitable for an endless range of musical styles, it offers a vast wealth of possibilities. This becomes evident as Daniel Ottensamer and Gerald Preinfalk on clarinet, with Christoph Traxler on piano, take to the MuTh stage. In both settings — the structural clarity of classical music, and the improvisational freedom of jazz — they show the real meaning of virtuosity.
