Die Feuerprobe (Trial by fire)
Bartolomeys in the MuTh / Dramatic reading with Isabel Karajan

* abgespielt

A meeting between two related genres. Lavant’s lyricism and the fragile musicality of her language combine with the song-like qualities of Shostakovich’s Cello Sonata. Both are lyric works. And both are a cry of protest. A cry against the experience of injustice and the suffering it brings. “Ich habe eine Welt und diese Welt brennt! Und wo etwas brennt, da entsteht Kraft. Und diese Kraft reißt mit!” These words flow from a remote place in the personal geography of the author, who writes for a literary public. But they could equally have come from the pen of the composer Shostakovich, who bore the mark of Stalin’s regime.

An intensely emotional evening with Franz Bartolomey and two extremely charismatic women: the actor Isabel Karajan, daughter of the great conductor, and Italian pianist Saskia Giorgini, winner of the 2016 International Mozart Competition.
