She plays Mozart and Bach at the most important piano festivals in the world – and now she has brought conductor Michael Lessky to Austria for the first time: Zhu Xiao-Mei

Born in Shanghai, she suffered as a victim of the Chinese Cultural Revolution. Her unusual life has spanned three continents and brought her to Paris, where she lives and teaches. In her concert performances she deliberately focuses on less ambitious works: “mountains of the soul”, which she has allowed to mature over a long time. For her Austrian premiere she has chosen Mozart’s C Minor Piano Concerto, which she is going to interpret with “Österreichs Elite-Nachwuchsorchester” (Austria’s Elite Young Talent Orchestra). “To be able to play Mozart, I believe you have to know freedom; good fortune, the joy of being alive, a contempt for convention, the power of life.”

A mature Mozart and a youthful Schubert promise an exciting musical encounter in Vienna’s new venue for music and theatre.
