Festival of Voices, Festival of Muses
* abgespielt
In his settings of scenes from Hamlet, Berlioz used voices in an unusual way, and in an equally unusual configuration. The voices of the piano and orchestra in Shostakovich’s concerto for his son are suffused with a youthful lightness and élan. Stravinsky’s ballet piece, which provides the centrepiece for this evening’s concert, has a narrative centred on the Greek god of music and the three Muses. Finally, this exceptional programme is brought to a close by the poetic voice of Luigi Nonos, in the love song (Liebeslied) he composed for his wife, Frau Nuria Nono Schoenberg.
