Fifty Shades of Amade
The Florian Willeitner String Experience in praise of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

There’s so much more to Mozart than the pistachio-flavoured chocolate treat that bears his name! Rolando Villazon invited the violinist and composer Florian Willeitner to the 2019 Mozart week to encourage him to take a fresh look at the work of the master. This gave rise to some powerful new pieces of music, all full of Mozart’s roguish wit.

Florian Willeitner, Benedict Mitterbauer and Ivan Turkalj bring Mozart’s Divertimento in E flat major to the MuTh stage, and set this work alongside the new compositions. The contrasts are evident: strict scoring versus improvisation, a classical playing style compared with modern rhythms, the traditional placed next to the contemporary. Together they create a rounded portrait of the ageless joker and wunderkind. To quote Willeitner: “Der Wolf ging, doch Wolf gang” (from “Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart or Fifty Shades of Amade”).
