Finale and Scherzo
Lieder recitals with Wolfgang Holzmair

“A sad farewell? No. Saying goodbye to Schubert? Never. Well, what is it then? A finale to feature this unique artist? Definitely. It has to be! He has defined my life now for thirty-seven years, years in which I was privileged to stand on many of the world’s great stages.
“What stays with me now is a sense of gratitude and a wealth of exceptional experiences. That, and people – loyal people who lived alongside me and thus became my friends, people who walked along with me and will accompany me into the future, when it comes to pastures new. But it’s not so far away. Schubert’s tragic works, infused with hidden tears, are scheduled for the 8th January, with a bright Scherzo to follow on the 11th. So this is a kind of surprise dessert, you might say, which may bring a smile to the audience and allow them to discover something new in the twists and turns of my programme.”

Wolfgang Holzmair has regularly appeared as a singer of Lieder in the world’s great centres of music, including London, Lisbon, Moscow, New York, Seoul, Washington, the Bregenzer Festspiele and the Carinthian Summer Music Festival. Since 1998 he has been teaching a class in Lieder and Oratorio at Mozarteum University, Salzburg. He also gives masterclasses in Europe and North America.
