Great chamber music for strings
Christian Altenburger in the MuTh

* abgespielt

This evening is totally dedicated to string instruments in a range of different combinations. Mozart’s cycle of six string quintets with two violas is a pinnacle of chamber music literature. Dominik Wagner, probably one of Austria’s most promising young musicians, makes an appearance in the Quintet by Antonín Dvořák.

“Metamorphosen”, Richard Strauss’s last major orchestral work, was originally written for 23 solo strings. Rudolf Leopold has produced a truly remarkable version for seven strings, which has found great favour internationally.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: String quintet in C minor, KV 406
Richard Strauss: Metamorphosen für Solostreicher (adapted for Septet by Rudolf Leopold)
Antonín Dvořák: String quintet in G major, Op. 77
