Hansel and Gretel
A musical fairy tale in three acts by Engelbert Humperdinck

* abgespielt

Repeat production

Children from the Vienna Boys’ Choir primary school’s ORG vocal training class (Barbara Palmetzhofer) and third year group (Angelica Bösch and Alexander Jost) perform this much-loved fairy tale, singing and acting to piano and string ensemble accompaniment in a musical arrangement by Gerald Wirth.

Instead of working at home in the kitchen, Hansel and Gretel run riot, singing “Suse, liebe Suse, was raschelt im Stroh?” and “Brüderchen, komm tanz mit mir” – then the sandman brings them sweet dreams from the land of fairytales – and the sweet, enticing smell of baking leads the way to the gingerbread house – and the wicked witch rides her broom – and Hansel is locked in the hutch – and the oven starts to smoke… but in the end the story comes to a happy ending. And youngsters and adults alike once more fall under the magical spell of the old folk tale.
