Happy Birthday!
VieVox Jubilee concert

* abgespielt

The word is getting around: VieVox are eight young men from a singing tradition that stretches back over 500 years. Each one of them is a former soloist from the Vienna Boys’ Choir. The ensemble offers a cappella singing of the highest standard – and always with a twinkle in their eye. Now, on their fifth birthday, they make their fifth appearance at MuTh. The concert features highlights from their numerous performances since the vocal ensemble was formed, ranging from Mendelssohn to Stevie Wonder. Compositions by former Vienna Boys’ Choir member Franz Schubert will naturally be included. Eduard Kutrowatz accompanies VieVox on piano. Heinz Kratochwil’s cycle Opus 159, written for three male voice choirs, is heard here for the first time in concert, with texts by the powerfully eloquent Baroque poet Abraham a Sancta Clara. Together with Vienna State Opera tenor Herbert Lippert – himself a former Vienna Boys’ Choir member – VieVox makes a foray into opera. Along with extracts from “The Marriage of Figaro”“, “Don Giovanni”, “William Tell” and “Macbeth”, the concert will also feature well-known numbers from Mozart’s “The Magic Flute”, performed as they have never before been heard in Vienna: unadulterated a cappella. We feel sure that Mr Mozart would have been pleased.

Old hits by the Comedian Harmonists will round off the evening!
