A Moment’s Pause – words and music

* abgespielt

Classical sacred music from the Western European tradition is one of the strengths of the Vienna Boys’ Choir; this is what they are famous for, this is the reason visitors from all over the world make the pilgrimage to Vienna. They have been singing masses and motets in Vienna’s Hofburgkapelle for more than 500 years – a repertoire which ranges from the medieval to the modern, and reflects the history of Western music. Sacred music is not just confined to Christendom. In this series of concerts, the Vienna Boys’ Choir offer an exciting glimpse into spiritual music from other cultures.

Accompanied by their own male voice choirs, Chorus Viennensis and Chorus Juventus, and by the specially formed Schubert-Akademie, the Vienna Boys’ Choir appear at MuTh performing masses by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert. These are matched with hymns from the Eastern churches, Jewish songs, Indian Bhajans, Qawwalis from Pakistan and Turkey, songs by shamans and medicine men, and overtone meditations. In addition, philosophers and writers will read short texts and join with the audience in commenting on and thinking about what has been heard.
