The Wien Welt Wettbewerb is a continuation of the celebrated ÖTR Contest (Österreichischer Tanzrat/ Austrian Dance Council). This year it is being presented by the Vienna-based NCCEA (New Century Culture Exchange Association), in cooperation with ImPulsTanz.

The association succeeded in securing the services of Vladimir Malakhov, former Director of the Staatsballet Berlin and currently Artistic Advisor to the Tokyo Ballet, as President of the Jury.

Artistic direction is being provided by Prof. Evelyn Téri.

With up to 400 dancers from more than 20 countries taking part, the ÖTR Contest has developed into one of the largest dance competitions in Europe. For many participants, this competition offers them their first opportunity of a springboard to a successful career.

Today, past winners of the ÖTR Contest can be seen dancing on stages right around the globe. To name but a few, Denys Cherevychko, Mihail Sosnovschi, Roman Lazik, Liudmila Konovalova, Alexandru Tcacenco and Dumitru Taran are now soloists with the Wiener Staatsballett; Johannes Stepanek is a soloist at the Royal Ballet in London; and Rainer Krenstetter, Dinu Tamazlacaru, Marion Walter and Iana Salenko are principal soloists at the Staatsballett Berlin.
