“Let me fly”
Gospelpower in Concert

* abgespielt

Gospelpower: energetic, unplugged acoustic music that will reach into every single corner of the Vienna Boys’ Choir’s Concert Hall. Performing under the artistic direction of Andreas Maurer, Gospelpower gets the heart racing and lets the mind take flight.

“Gospel” comes from “good spell”, which means “good news”. And that is precisely the message of this Sunday afternoon concert! The themes of freedom, equality and joy run through gospel music like a constant thread. These songs were originally sung by African slaves in North America, and they always make great use of the musical device of “repetition”. This tended to hammer the message home in the listeners’ heads. Like a truck repeatedly going over the same stretch of road, these set phrases wore deep lines into the surface of oppression. And eventually they broke through. Combined with dancing and clapping — those traditional means of physical expression — all this can even climax in a kind of spiritual trance. Gospelpower: with all the force of a powerful plea in the courtroom!
