Lotte Lenya & Billie Holiday
A Tribute to “Pirate Jenny” and “Lady Day” / Lotte Lenya & Billie Holiday’s greatest hits

* abgespielt

An irrepressibble lust for life: Sona MacDonald pays tribute to two of the most iconic and enduring figures in show business.

Lotte Lenya (whose real name was Karoline Blamauer, from Vienna’s Penzing district) became Kurt Weill’s wife and muse. Her performance as Pirate Jenny in the Threepenny Opera helped make the play a classic. Billie Holiday (real name Eleonora Fagan, from New York) is considered one of the finest female jazz singers of all time. “Pirate Jenny” and “Lady Day” had much in common. Both had to overcome enormous obstacles in their lives; yet each sang so touchingly, they could move the listener like almost nobody else. MacDonald shows this convincingly in her powerful performance. Accompanied by the sensitive playing of Christian Frank (piano) and his musical colleagues, the Kammerschauspielerin delivers timeless songs with soul and passion. The music is interspersed with stories from the lives of these two great women. A moving, expressive, exhilarating experience!
