MuTh 15-minute Session: International Women’s Day 2021
Elke Hesse and guests, in celebration of women!

* abgespielt

Inspired by the second Conference of Socialist Women, the first International Women’s Day took place on 19th March 1911. It called for voting rights for women and gender equality. Since 1921, International Women’s Day has been observed annually on 8th March.

In Austria, universal suffrage for women came into force in 1918. But how are things going now in terms of gender equality, especially in the areas of culture and the arts? Where are the women in positions of leadership? How many of the leading roles in our universities and orchestras are held by women?

To discuss this topic, and to celebrate women more generally, Elke Hesse has invited several strong women to join her for the MuTh 15-minute Session on 8th March 2021. Her guests are drawn from several generations and come from a range of  backgrounds: the politician Maria Rauch-Kallat; the singer Ildiko Raimondi, accompanied by Serafina Starke, a young colleague from her sponsorship programme; the actress Maria Happel, with the young director Azelia Opak; and Anna Knopp, violinist in the Minetti Quartet.

Our MuTh 15-minute Sessions are streamed live, and can be viewed at  www.muth.at as well as on Facebook and YouTube.
