MuThers’ Day
Songs for Mothers’ Day

* abgespielt

Mothers do a great deal for their families, and much of it goes unnoticed. Mothers’ Day is a time to celebrate mothers, and an opportunity to say “thank you”. Here at MuTh, the Vienna Boys’ Choir are performing an entire show about mothers.

And in this year, 2017, we are focussing on one mother in particular: Empress Maria Theresa. Born in Vienna on 13th May 1717, Maria Theresa was mother to 16 children, and was also, in a sense, mother to an entire empire. That’s certainly how she saw herself; from the introduction of universal education to providing for the population at large, her politics were characterised by wisdom and an outlook rooted in maternal values.

We are celebrating Mothers’ Day with the music of her time, including songs which the music-loving Empress sang herself, as well as songs for and about mothers. The Gondwana Indigenous Children’s Choir from Cairns, Australia, are our special guests.

The perfect gift — and not just for mothers!
