Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrica
A concert of African music by the Vienna Boys' Choir

* abgespielt

The Vienna Boys’ Choir have been collecting songs from the countries they visit since 1926, and since 1998 they have been doing this in a systematic fashion. The range of World Music presented at MuTh focuses on their musical encounters with the finest performers. The Choir first set foot on the African continent in1952. Since then they have visited Kenya, Tanzania, Tunisia and Zimbabwe. In 2015 they are presenting South African classics at MuTh – ranging from African miners’ secret protest songs to gumboot dances such as Shosoloza and Sesivuma sigiya as well as Solomon Linda’s famous “Mbube” (” In the jungle, the mighty jungle”).

Also in the programme: music from Algeria, Morocco, Mali and the Cape Verde islands. The Vienna Boys’ Choir will be accompanied by African musicians: the sounds of their traditional Instruments will help crate that special MuTh atmosphere.
