Russian Soul
Markus Schirmer & friends in the MuTh

* abgespielt

On this occasion Markus Schirmer has invited a brilliant young ensemble to join him. Not only does the evening represent his guests’ Viennese concert debut, it also features an unusually exciting programme. Two globally renowned Russian composers, each with his own moving life story. Two musical Titans whose musical languages could not be more different, but who are united by their shared “Russian soul”. Dmitri Shostakovich meets Alfred Schnittke and the OBERTON STRING OCTET with Markus Schirmer. The programme includes Shostakovich’s famous Second Piano Trio as well as Alfred Schnittke’s rarely-heard Piano Concerto, whose disconcerting yet magical sound weaves its own particular spell.

Alfred Schnittke: String quartet No. 3
Dmitri Shostakovich: Piano Trio No. 2 in E minor
Octet for Strings, Op. 11
Alfred Schnittke: Concerto for Piano and String Orchestra
