Austro-Albanian Year of Culture 2018

Austrian debut performance. It gives us great pleasure to invite you to our next Albanian Cultural Festival in Austria event (part of the 2018 Austro-Albanian Year of Culture).

From Australia to northern Europe, the critics have all spoken with one voice. The music played by the SazIso ensemble has its roots in the mountains of Albania. This music – melancholy folk ballads, played by virtuoso Albanian musicians – must be one of this year’s most exciting discoveries on the World Music scene. So it’s no surprise that this stile of polyphonic singing, which has been recognised by UNESCO as “intangible world heritage”, has kept them in the top rankings of the European World Music Chart for several months. Following on from their much-lauded tour of the UK, Germany and the Netherlands, the ensemble makes its Austrian debut during the “Albanian Cultural Festival in Austria”.

Saze is a traditional musical form whose fundamental elements have remained unchanged down the decades. This unique, age-old musical style has an intensity that draws each and every listener under its magical spell.

The album “At Least Wave Your Handkerchief at Me” was awarded a “Jahrespreis” by the German Record Critics’ Award Committee.
