Shabbat Shalom
Sabbath tales and songs / Timna Brauer in the MuTh

“Shabbat Shalom” is the greeting used to wish another person a peaceful Sabbath. The Jewish day of rest begins at sunset on Friday evening and continues until the sun goes down on Saturday. Timna Brauer and Elas Meiri invite the audience to celebrate this holiday together. Through stories, psalms and songs they explore ancient musical traditions from Europe and the East.

The Sabbath tradition has its origins in the Bible, where it is written: “And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.” No matter whether in bygone days — under Roman occupation, in Moorish Spain or the shtetlekh of Eastern Europe — or in modern-day Israel and throughout the Jewish diaspora, the seventh day of the Creation is celebrated every week in observance of perhaps the most important commandment of the Jewish faith.
