The Simply Quartet was founded in Shanghai, but is now based in Vienna. The members of this international ensemble all study at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna, under Professor Johannes Meissl. Since 2017, the Simply Quartet has been a member of the European Chamber Music Academy. After winning first prize in the 2017 Joseph Haydn Competition, the Simply Quartet went on to take first prize at the “Schubert and Modern Music” competition staged by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in 2018 – thereby securing this concert appearance at MuTh. Currently, ensemble members Danfeng Shen, Antonia Rankersberger, Lu Xiang and Ivan Valentin Hollup Roald are focusing on composers from the German-speaking world, but they also perform contemporary pieces.
