Snow White 2018
A Wiener Taschenoper (Vienna Pocket Opera) production, co-produced with Graz Opera and the Staatstheater Kassel

“Mirror, mirror on the wall …”. This is the story of the young princess whose wicked stepmother is jealous of her beauty and plans to kill her. It’s a story that has kept young and old on the edge of their seats since time immemorial. And we’re sure this repeat production of the 2016 hit will keep you holding your breath too! Humperdinck’s retellings of the Brothers Grimm are all classics. His four compositions for “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves” set texts by his sister Adelheid Wette. Gerhard Dienstbier has extended the libretto, and Wolfgang Mitterer has enlarged the musical repertoire. But the Tyrolean composer has, at the same time, remained totally faithful to Humperdinck’s original. Instead of an orchestra however, keyboards, double bass and drums create a range of modern tones, including synthetic sounds and samples.
