Piano Trios from Haydn to Korngold / TrioVanBeethoven in the MuTh

Haydn composed around forty piano trios, and is considered the father of this musical form. In this evening’s concert, his work is contrasted with two pieces by Debussy and Korngold, each written during the composers’ youth. Debussy was still surprisingly rooted in 19th century Romanticism, whereas Korngold, tugging at the shackles of tonal restriction, was already making a leap into the 20th: two sensational early works!

Joseph Haydn: Piano trio in C major, Hob. XV:27
Claude Debussy: Piano Trio in G major
Erich Wolfgang Korngold: Piano Trio Opus 1 (1910)
