Maria, a lively, music-loving postulant, leaves the convent where she has grown up to work as governess at the home of Captain Von Trapp, a widower. Maria spreads her love of music to his seven children – and she also wins the heart of their father. After several upheavals and misunderstandings, they marry. All is well until the Nazis almost destroy their new-found happiness.
