The Steude Quartet 91
Chamber music

* abgespielt

The Steude Quartet was founded by members of the Vienna Philharmonic in 2002, carrying on the long tradition of string quartets formed out of the ranks of this famous orchestra.

Besides their intensive schedule of activities at home and abroad, the Steude Quartet has documented its work in numerous CD recordings.

The programme for the coming season of concerts was selected not only with MuTh in mind, the concert hall in which they will be held; it also fulfils a wish which has been long held by the ensemble itself. In a collaboration between the hosts and the guests, “Il Tramonto”, a piece for soprano and strings by Respighi, is performed featuring a soloist from the Vienna Boys’ Choir. In his youth Franz Schubert was himself a member of the Vienna Boys’ Choir, and his later creations expanded the quartet repertoire with some wonderful, magnificent music. To perform these milestones of the quartet literature within a single cycle is the long-held wish of the Steude Quartet, a wish which they are now fulfilling.
Verdi, whose centenary is celebrated this year, is represented here by Muzio’s arrangement of his opera “Luisa Miller”. Hence the cycle is brought to a close by opera, which is the musical home of all four members of the quartet.
