Winds and Strings
Vienna Concert Band

* abgespielt

Founded in 2013, the Vienna Concert Band is a wind ensemble with a variable line-up. Its main activities are concerts of film music and symphonic literature for winds, and playing accompaniment for silent films. Original pieces for wind by contemporary Austrian composers receive particular attention.
The aim here is to provide budding and professional musicians alike with the opportunity to perform music from the wind literature at the highest international level. Most of the players come from Vienna and its environs, and comprise professional orchestra musicians, music teachers and music students. They all share an enthusiasm for the wind repertoire.

In April 2015 the ensemble plays the Concerto for Cello and Wind Orchestra written by Friedrich Gulda for the Austrian cellist Heinrich Schiff. The soloist is the Viennese Cellist Matthias Bartolomey. The concert will also feature performances of symphonic works for wind by composers such as Franz Cibulka, Vaclav Nelhybel and Johan de Meij.
