BEING KARL DIETER

In September 2025, we will be launching “Being Karl Dieter” – an evening of musical theatre composed and performed by Thomas Wally. The composer is also familiar to radio audiences from the Ö1 program Neue Musik auf der Couch (New Music on the Couch), where iconic works of contemporary music are explored through insightful and accessible analysis.

“Being Karl Dieter is a fictional creation, woven with references to equally imaginary works by Thomas Mann, Haruki Murakami, and Virginia Woolf. The lines between creation and critique blur, becoming almost indistinguishable. Layers of deception, hidden meanings and mirrored reflections add to the intrigue. Thomas Wally – composer, performer, and emcee for the evening – takes mischievous delight in offering a peek into his intriguingly unconventional mind.
