Ursula Strauss’ exceptional acting talent lies in the nuanced intelligence with which she brings her characters to life. Her expressive performances reveal a profound understanding of human contradictions, passions and struggles. She imbues each character with authenticity, dignity and a touch of humour. The actress first captivated the stage, then made her mark on the cinema screen, and since 2010, has won over television audiences with her diverse portrayals of compelling female characters. She was awarded the Diagonale Special Award for her powerful portrayal of the life-hungry wife in the Oscar-nominated Revanche (Revenge). Her portrayal of the chaotic, intuitive inspector Angelika Schnell earned her a Romy Award, and she received the prestigious Austrian Film Prize for her role as the courageous farmer’s wife in Vielleicht in einem anderen Leben (In Another Lifetime).
Ursula Strauss also curates the renowned Wachau in Echtzeit festival and has served as the president of the Austrian Film Academy since 2012. Her artistic versatility extends to music, where she has captivated audiences with a song cycle in collaboration with Ernst Molden, as well as the program Alles Liebe alongside the iconic duo Bartolomey-Bittmann.
She will be a guest at the MuTh for a reading of Stefan Zweig’s Brief einer Unbekannten (Letter from an Unknown Woman). In his novels, novellas and historical writings, Zweig reveals himself as a master explorer of deep souls and intricate emotional landscapes. Stefan Zweig was a successful writer during a time that was upended by the Nazi takeover, which ultimately forced him into exile in Brazil. His novella Brief einer Unbekannten, written during his productive years in Salzburg, tells the poignant story of a woman’s passion, loneliness and love.
