FOLK-SONGS, FOLK-WAYS – LIEDER, GESUNGEN UND GESPIELT (FOLK SONGS, FOLK WAYS – SONGS, SUNG AND PLAYED)
Trio Accio and Avin Ahmadi | CLOSE UP contemporary music at close quarters – curated by Irene Suchy
Out of the ordinary | Concert | 8+ | Children | Young people | Adults | School, primary level | School, secondary level
An evening that combines melodies and stories from Scotland, Ireland and Persia. Scottish dances, Irish songs, lively jigs, and tunes of shepherds and shepherdesses – all brought to life through a unique musical dialogue between the piano trio and the oud.
The performance opens with a song that speaks of falling in love, of life’s worries and of hard work. Frank Martin and Bohuslav Martinu capture the essence of folk music in their works for piano trio – songs once sung during and after work, reflecting themes of love, passion and life connected with nature.
Avin Ahmadi, singer and oud player, brings a new perspective to this traditional music. Accompanying herself on the oud, she sings about the present – her life in Iran and stories from the north, south, east and west of the country. These songs reflect the rich sense of community and culture across Iran’s regions, bringing to life a diverse musical heritage and the tradition of collective storytelling.
