JSB:48 – “AUS ALLEN FUGEN” – project based on Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier
Arcis Saxophone Quartet
Chamber music | Classic | Concert | Adults
Add together12 majors and 12 minors, multiply the result by 2, and you get 48. And that was the formula used by Johann Sebastian Bach in his “Well-Tempered Clavier”. He filled two volumes, each containing 24 pairs of preludes and fugues, with one pair in every major and minor key. Absolute masterpieces. So, over the coming years, the Arcis Saxophone Quartet has set itself the task of creating its own versions of all 48 fugues, and has also asked 48 composers from all over the world to each write a new prelude. A selection from this project will be heard at Das MuTh, including compositions inspired by Bach’s well-tempered musical wonder.
