On the opera stage, the Greek singer Maria Callas could voice her death throes in three octaves like no one else. But alongside her triumphs, she also experienced personal tragedies and private catastrophes. She gave up the stage for Aristotle Onassis, only to learn from the newspapers of his marriage to Jackie Kennedy. Isadora Duncan is similarly iconic. Celebrated for her artistic radicalism, she is regarded not just as a trailblazer, but as the most important figure in the development of modern dance. Maria Callas and Isadora Duncan: two women who never met, yet had much in common. Alongside Catrin Striebeck and Sona MacDonald, Angelika Hager now brings them together on stage: “a match made in heaven” – in the truest sense of the phrase.
