LIFT & LOOP

Progress comes through repetition – in training as in music. Starting from this shared principle, the concert approaches contemporary music in a physical and playful way.

Anne Keckeis and Stephanie Ko, a cellist and a violinist, transform the concert hall into a rehearsal space – amid instruments, yoga mats and exercise equipment, musical and physical processes come to the fore. The focus is on études, studies and minimalist concepts, supported by electronics and looping techniques.

Works by Tom Johnson, Kate Moore, Philipp Gras, Sofia Gubaidulina and Arturo Fuentes demonstrate how repetition gives rise to variation, precision and a rich variety of sounds – whilst leaving room for humour, concentration and an invitation to discover contemporary music one step at a time.
