ÖKOSYSTEME – ECOSYSTEMS

How can the Danube get into the concert hall? - Voice and Cello | CLOSE UP – Contemporary music at close quarters | curated by Irene Suchy

New music | Out of the ordinary | Concert | Education | School, primary level

A river as a fellow performer. This hosted concert takes the Danube as its starting point for a journey of sonic discovery. Contemporary music is set alongside nature, voice, and space – audible, visible, and constantly moving. At the centre of this event lie works by the composer and researcher Pia Palme. Through video, electronics, and post-processed recordings of the natural world, she brings the Danube right into the concert hall. The river’s currents, eddies, and sounds all become part of the music, and engage in a dialogue with voice and cello.

Adding pieces by MORTON FELDMAN, MEREDITH MONK and HILDEGARD VON BINGEN, allows a multilayered soundspace to emerge, embracing meditation, play, and nature-watching. The commentary helps make contemporary music accessible and encourages the audience to pay close attention.

In cooperation with Wien Modern.
