Can a river make music?
In this hosted concert, the Danube becomes an adventure in sound. Together we discover how water sounds, rushes, and swirls – and how these sounds can become music.
The composer Pia Palme brings the Danube right onto the stage through videos, recordings of the natural world, and a particular selection of instruments. The river “plays” along; voices sing, we hear the sound of a cello, and suddenly the concert hall feels like an underwater world.
Ranging from calm, mysterious sounds to lively, cheerful songs by Meredith Monk, this concert is all about listening closely, enjoying a state of wonder, and thinking about issues such as:
Who lives in the river?
Why is water so important?
And how can music and nature belong together?
