SCHUBERT FESTIVAL WIEN
Schubert and Atzenbrugg
Orchestral music | Classic | Concert | Adults
What is it about the work of a composer like Schubert that inspires so many new arrangements and transcriptions? The answer must lie in the music itself. And the music on this occasion was created by Johanna Doderer, who has composed an opera entitled “Schuberts Reise nach Atzenbrugg” (Schubert’s Journey to Atzenbrugg), from a libretto by Peter Turrini. “The music in this opera exists on three levels: extracts from Schubert; music somewhere between Schubert and my own composition; and of course, my own musical language”, says the composer. The Festival is host to the premiere performance of a concert suite based on the opera. The Armenian-born, Vienna-trained pianist Nareh Arghamanyan is our soloist for the evening. She plays Schumann’s sensitive A minor piano concerto, followed by Schubert’s 6th Symphony, the “Little C major”, which brings our cycle of the complete Schubert symphonies to a close.
