SEHNSUCHT (LONGING)
Music that conveys deep longings and evokes a sense of yearning | Chorus Juventus at Das MuTh
Choral music | Lieder & singing | Concert | Young people | Adults
Chorus Juventus is a mixed choir with a powerful sound, composed of children from the Senior Classes of the Vienna Boys Choir High School.
The 80 students at the Vienna Boys Choir’s upper secondary school are between 15 and 19 years old. They come from all over Austria, Australia, China, New Zealand, Russia, South Africa and Ukraine. Some of them were members of the Vienna Boys Choir. At Austria’s only upper secondary school specialising in vocal music, students learn everything related to the art of music. Their repertoire spans Gregorian chant to film music and jazz, with a primary focus on great classical choral works and a cappella motets, ranging from the Renaissance to the present day. They rehearse three times a week, or more frequently when preparing for major concerts.
The choir performs approximately 20 times a year, at venues such as the Hofburgkapelle, St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, the Konzerthaus, Stadthalle, and, of course, Das MuTh. They also hold concerts at the Salzburg Festspielhaus, Brucknerhaus Linz, and in Raiding. Stage experience is part of everyday school life.
The Chorus Juventus can be heard performing a film score specially composed by Gerd Schuller in Curt Faudon’s final film, “Good Shepherds”.
