Anna Baar, born in Zagreb in 1973, received the Grand Austrian State Prize in 2022 and is recognized as one of the most important voices in contemporary Austrian literature. The daughter of a Dalmatian mother and an Austrian father, she was raised bilingually between Vienna and Carinthia. This cultural diversity deeply shapes her writing. Her stories – such as Selfie im Bambiland (Selfie in Bambiland), Schöne Tage (Beautiful Days) and Tausendmal schöner als ihr (A Thousand Times More Beautiful Than You) – explore themes of identity, culture and human relationships.
