THE EARLY MUSIC OF JOE ZAWINUL

“Music may not change the world, but may inspire people to change the world,” said Austrian jazz musician of the century, Joe Zawinul. In early 2004, vibraphone master Flip Philipp had the good fortune to collaborate with him for three days on a joint project at Vienna City Hall. This experience made a lasting impression on Philipp and inspired a fresh approach to both the music creation process and its interpretation. In his tribute, Flip Philipp reflects on those moments with his quintet, drawing inspiration from the early works of Joe Zawinul.
